Chin & Cheek Implants

Posted on

Facial beauty blends all your features harmoniously to create a balanced and attractive whole. Many individuals are not happy with one or more of their facial features. They may feel that one or more areas of their face are out of balance or appear weak. Chin and cheek implants are two cosmetic procedures that can bring the face into harmony and emphasize specific features. Facial contouring through implants can transform a pleasant face into a stunning one.

Chin and cheek implants are made of biocompatible materials such as silicone, polyethylene, or Gortex. Placed under the skin of the face, they can add fullness or result in facial contours. There are many reasons to consider chin or cheek implants, including:

  • A receding or “weak” chin

  • Facial trauma

  • Adding contour to the jawline

  • Balancing the top and bottom of the face

  • Correcting shallow cheeks

  • Enhance facial features

  • Draw attention to the eyes

  • Look younger

  • Sculpted appearance

  • Cheeks implants can balance facial asymmetry

Benefits of Chin Implants

An implant, usually silicone, is custom crafted to fit the jawbone and add volume and contour to the chin. For a balanced appearance, the implant brings a receding chin forward to directly under the lower lip rather than behind it.

Many people perceive individuals with a receding chin as weak or ineffective. A strong jawline and balanced chin are considered attractive, and chin implants can give you that look. A small or receding chin can also make the nose appear larger, throwing everything out of balance. Individuals with a full or round face may look immature or childlike if their chin is not prominent enough. A chin implant can create a more refined, mature appearance.

Benefits of Cheek Implants

Dramatic, sculpted cheekbones add sophistication and beauty to the facial features. High cheekbones draw attention to beautiful eyes and can balance your facial features. The silicone implants are designed and molded to provide the desired aesthetic results.

There are many reasons to get cheek implants, including flat cheeks, which may be due to genetics or facial trauma. Various effects are possible depending on the size, shape, and placement of cheek implants. Fullness can be added to a thin face or a dramatic sculptured look given to a round face. Many individuals get cheek implants when their face begins to sag and look drawn as they age. Cheek implants restore firmness and lift sagging skin for a more youthful appearance.

Chin or Cheek Implant Procedures

Both cheek and chin implants are cosmetic surgeries performed in our office surgical suite. The area is numbed, and you are given an IV sedative to relax you into a light “twilight” sleep for comfort.

The silicone implant is inserted beneath the skin through a small incision beneath the chin, where any scarring will be virtually invisible. A chin implant generally takes less than an hour. Healing takes just a few days.

Cheek implants take a bit longer because the surgery is performed on both sides of the face. The incisions are made inside the mouth or under the lower eyelid, so there is no visible incision or scarring. Over time, the tissues of the cheeks will conform to the implants. Healing takes about three days.

Dr. Gilbert carefully reviews each patient’s aesthetic goals and performs a thorough facial examination to determine whether they are a candidate for chin or cheek implants. He will suggest specific options and review their pros and cons to help the patient achieve beauty and balance.
