Reshaping Your Smile

Corrective jaw surgery, also referred to as orthognathic surgery, addresses a variety of jaw and facial bone abnormalities. It is typically recommended to correct structural issues that affect biting ability, facial aesthetics, or overall jaw function. Orthognathic surgery can resolve problems such as malocclusions, facial asymmetry, sleep apnea, and difficulties with chewing or speaking.

At Inland Institute Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, a premier oral surgery practice, we specialize in transforming lives through orthognathic surgery. Dr. Gilbert brings extensive experience and skill to restore oral function and enhance aesthetic outcomes for patients. Contact our office today to explore our orthognathic surgery options and schedule your consultation.

Benefits of Orthognathic Surgery

If you're experiencing difficulties in speaking, chewing, or other oral functions due to jaw misalignments, orthognathic surgery offers solutions to enhance these functions and promote oral health.

Addressing facial asymmetry and imbalance through orthognathic surgery can restore facial harmony, significantly boosting self-esteem.

Orthognathic surgery aims to correct jaw misalignments, enhancing dental occlusion and bite functionality. This improvement in chewing efficiency reduces jaw strain.

When complemented by orthodontic treatment, orthognathic surgery delivers enduring corrections for jaw abnormalities, ensuring stability over the long term.

Orthognathic Surgery Procedure

Similar to any procedure offered, the initial stage of orthognathic surgery involves a consultation with Dr. Gilbert, our certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon. During this consultation, he will conduct an oral examination to devise a personalized treatment plan addressing your specific concerns and aiming to enhance oral function. Additionally, he may utilize 3D scans during this appointment to further evaluate your condition.

On the day of the procedure, anesthesia will be administered to induce a pain-free state. Once the anesthesia takes effect, incisions will be made inside the mouth to access the jawbones, ensuring no visible external scarring. Depending on your situation, small plates, screws, or other fixation devices may be employed to secure the repositioned jawbones.

Upon completion of the adjustments, the incisions will be closed using sutures. Following the surgery, a hospital stay overnight may be necessary for recovery. In the weeks following the procedure, you may experience some swelling and discomfort. Additionally, you may need to adhere to dietary restrictions and closely follow the post-operative instructions provided.

Types of Anesthesia

We offer several forms of anesthesia to ensure your comfort.
